The Essence 2017 Black Women in Hollywood Awards

The Essence 2017 Black Women in Hollywood Awards, was graced by an absolutely inspiring and beautiful bunch of women. The annual show, which was created with the sole motive to celebrate accomplished black women, doing groundbreaking work in Hollywood, celebrated its 10th year. The event saw a number of fashionistas dolled up in gorgeous clothes and lots of trendsetting hairstyles. Lets take a look at some of our favourites from this year!

Gabrielle Union

Gabrielle Union who was this year’s host, did not fail to bring her A game to the event. Sporting a playful bob styled with subtle waves, she certainly did look gorgeous. She attended the event dressed in head-to-toe Prada and finished off the look with light, natural makeup.

One of the four honorees at this year’s awards, Janelle Monae showed up in a throwback to her signature suits, this time by Barbara Bui. Her hairstyle though, was the highlight of her look. A thick top knot with a side part, she went all out accessorizing her hair with bobby pins. Edgy and on point!

 Issa Rae

This lady and her magnificent hairstyles that never fail to amaze me! Famous for her red carpet appearances sporting the most non basic hairdos, she nailed it once again at this year’s awards. A side bun of sorts, she went with subtle twists to create an updo that is anything but boring. She didn’t hesitate to go with a smokey eye and played it down with a nude lip.

Meagan Good

Drop dead gorgeous, Meagan Good is hard to miss! Having made red carpet appearances before with her breathtaking faux locs, she upped the game this time with her choice of hair colour. Her light brown, almost blonde hair, perfectly complemented her skin tone. A brown smokey eye and a nude lip to complete her look, and we are blown away.

 Aja Naomi King

Last but not the least, we have “How to get away with murder” star Aja Naomi King, who went all out with her white lace and net dress, but kept her hair simple. She opted for a sleek blowout with the slightest outward waves at the end. The hairdo went so well with her elegant but cheeky dress, and she finished the look with a cranberry smokey eye. This was definitely one of our favourite looks!
